Library Manager

Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of LIbray Manager. This is a part-time 12-month per year position.  A work week of 8-12 hours is required.  The normal work hours are arranged between 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, though there may be occasion for a few weekend hours and extra hours to be applied to functions involving commencement and graduation events.  Ideally, work hours should consider the individual and unique needs of the student body.

The Library Manager serves as the administrator of the MCUTS Library with responsibility overseeing collection acquisition, development, maintenance, library services, and information technology management of the library.  The ideal applicant should be a collegial, visionary, experienced leader with proven ability to manage the development of a strategic plan that will support and facilitate academic research.  The librarian manages learning resources as well as the implementation of operational details of the library while providing support, resource, and training for students and professors.  The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with students from backgrounds that include first-generation college students, returning citizens, veterans, international students, lower-income students, and the historically underrepresented.  The applicant must have a sincere interest in Christian higher education and community transformation.  This mission will be achieved by working with students, faculty, staff, and other academic skills specialist to offer resources that support student success in research and synthesis of academic information.

Position Description:

  • Selecting, developing, cataloging, and classifying library resources
  • Answering student inquiries and assisting and familiarizing students with library services
  • Organizing and facilitating workshops on library services
  • Liaising with faculty to ensure library services meet the needs of all students
  • Supporting teaching and research by guiding student through relevant research processes
  • Participating in campus scholarly life by forming relationship with students, faculty, and staff across the institution
  • Promoting the libraryís resources to users
  • Assisting students to use computer equipment for conducting research
  • Provide an environment conducive to studying, collaboration, and research
  • Organize and disseminate course textbooks for matriculating students
  • Other duties as assigned by Vice President of Student Affairs


Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a related degree and relevant expertise in library/information sciences.  This position requires a demonstrated knowledge of key trends in library science; the ability to evaluate emerging technologies in library science relevant to student body uses and needs; superb written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; and demonstrated success in fostering diversity and inclusion.
