Content Development Specialist

Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Content Development SpecialistThe content development specialist is an entry-level, full-time employee who works as part of the University Communications team to develop content for use in telling the Union story through the university’s communications platforms.

Union University is a private, coeducational liberal arts-based university offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The campus is located in Jackson, Tenn. (80 miles northeast of Memphis) with additional campuses in Germantown, Hendersonville, and Memphis, Tenn. Union University currently enrolls about 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students from 48 states and 15 countries. Position Description:

  • Identifying and writing content for the university website, magazine, e-mails, ads, promotional materials, news releases, and other publications.
  • Working directly with campus entities in developing a content strategy for their digital and/or print campaigns. This might entail any or all of the following:
    • Reviewing content produced by the entity
    • Revamping existing content, if applicable
    • Writing or designing content with the assistance of the entity
    • Establishing an updated strategy, if applicable
    • Approve and publish/send finalized content for some digital channels
  • Ensuring that content being delivered through the university’s content delivery platforms are current, comprehensive, client-oriented, and clear. Content is defined as any asset that communicates meaningful information.
  • Proofreading internal and external communications.
  • Assisting in the management and strategy of the university’s various social media accounts.
  • Developing strategy and content for the university’s blog.
  • Producing monthly Union Life email.
  • Other duties as directed by the Associate Vice President for University Communications.


Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a related area of study - communication arts, journalism, marketing, English, advertising, public relations, etc. Strong communication skills, proven skills in working with students and volunteers, professional work habits, and a team-oriented attitude are required.

The communications specialist will be expected to be proficient in the following skill sets:

  • Well-developed writing skills. This will include creative/feature writing to tell stories in a compelling way. AP Style is utilized in this position.
  • Well-developed organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of content marketing strategies. This will include search engine optimization, search engine marketing, and keyword research.
  • Understanding of analytics. This includes being able to effectively analyze analytic reports to identify content effectiveness and shortcomings.
  • Ability to represent Union University to her constituencies in a professional and effective manner.
  • Commitment to the University’s vision, mission and core values.
