Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Security Officer/Campus Service Associate for its Germantown campus.

Position Description:
 
The Security Officer/Campus Services Associate serves as a concierge for the University with the goal of creating an environment in which all members of the University community feel safe and served. The person in this position is responsible for carrying out Safety and Security services as well as providing campus maintenance and services as directed by the Campus Director. The hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Duties include:
 
Security

  • Serve and protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Union University.
  • Conduct walking patrols of interior and exterior locations/areas and remain highly visible.
  • Monitor and control parking according to parking program specifications; check parking lots and vicinity for abnormal activity.
  • Maintain a constant alertness for signs or indications of unusual or abnormal conditions.
  • Respond to access/securing requests in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Key and Access Control programs.
  • Complete required paperwork in compliance with the Safety & Security Operations Manual, including, but not limited to: field reports, operation notes, incident reports, accident reports and traffic citations. Maintain department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Provide emergency/crisis/routine response as situations arise, in accordance with University and departmental policy, Federal, State, and local laws.

 Campus Services

  • Act as a concierge at the front desk for the University, assisting University students, faculty, staff, vendors, and guests as needed and address any issues that may arise.  Maintain visitor/vendor log.  Be aware of campus events and activities.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Administer the distribution of campus IDs, parking permits and other pertinent material for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Keep campus workroom clean and orderly, including checking the status of copiers and fax machine, keeping them filled with paper.
  • Sort incoming mail to employee boxes and process outgoing mail. 
  • At the direction of the Campus Director, conduct general building maintenance duties and respond to requests for services, including but not limited to:
    • Light grounds maintenance and trash removal
    • Water planting areas and potted plants
    • Clear sidewalks
    • Install wall hangings such as pictures
    • Apply salt on sidewalks and parking lots as needed in winter months
    • Paint rooms and touch-up marks/scuffs.
    • Address small plumbing and appliance issues in kitchens, bathrooms, and classrooms.
  • For major building repairs, HVAC issues, etc. coordinate with University Facilities department or third-party vendors as directed by the Campus Director.
  • Assist with classroom set up and arrangement as needed.  Move office furniture, filing cabinets, shelves, tables, chairs, etc. as needed for relocating offices, preparing for events, etc.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Campus Director.

Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants holding a
bachelorís degree.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required, with demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office technology.  This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, typing skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced college environment.
