Safety & Security Shift Supervisor - Armed

Union University seeks a qualified individuals for the position of Safety & Security Shift Supervisor - Armed for second shift.

*Note: Second shift is from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Position Description:

  • Serve and protect students, faculty, staff and visitors of Union University.
  • Supervise, support, encourage and direct security officers taking corrective action, if necessary.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for the delivery of timely, safe, quality safety and security supervision.
  • Provide primary guidance on situational problems; making referrals for more complex problems.
  • Participate in both walking and vehicle security patrols, as well as other proactive criminal preventative methods, and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls in accordance with training guidelines.
  • Provide emergency/crisis/routine response as situations arise, in accordance with University and departmental policy, Federal, State and local laws.
  • Serve as on-sight point of contact for first responding entities such as fire, police, JEA and EMS.
  • Encourage favorable behavioral patterns through direct interactions and relationships with students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain shift schedules for security officers, accounting for holiday, vacation and sick leave. This information is relayed to the S & S Operations Supervisor for payroll.
  • Prepare records and reports as assigned by the Director or Operations Supervisor for Safety and Security; maintain daily logs as required; Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Monitor inclement weather conditions, helping to give the University community advance warnings and to coordinate speedy evacuations when needed.
  • Work closely with Facilities Management personnel to correct and prevent campus safety problems.
  • Proficiently utilize office technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Complete required paperwork in compliance with the Safety & Security Operations Manual, including but not limited to: field reports, operation notes, after-action/incident reports, accident reports and traffic citations. Maintain department records, reports and files as required.
  • Monitor and control parking according to parking program specifications; check parking lots and vicinity for abnormal activity.
  • Lead/assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct on-going training as necessary to ensure officer certification and competency. Maintain required certifications and enhance professional growth and development through participation in training and educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain firearms proficiency in accordance with office training guidelines is a requirement of the job.
  • Trained in CPR, AED, and first aid techniques with the ability to train other officers. Yearly certification is required.
  • Provide on-campus escorts to the university community.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of all Union University Safety and Security policies, procedures, university rules, and applicable local, state and federal laws.
  • Responsible for carrying out or assisting with other duties as assigned by the Director or Operations Supervisor for Safety and Security.

Qualifications:

Graduation from High School or GED equivalency and three years of experience in police work, or military police experience is required.  These positions require a valid driverís license and excellent customer service skills. Candidates must pass a psychological assessment, drug test, and full background check. These positions also require a valid driverís license and excellent customer service skills. Certification as an Armed Security Officer with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance or ability to be certified required. CPR/AED certification or the ability to be certified is required.

Preference will be given to applicants with a current/previous P.O.S.T certification or equivalent military experience.
